About the Boys of Color P.O.W.E.R. Summit & Academy

The Boys of Color P.O.W.E.R. (Pathways of Opportunity Where Leaders Emerge Resilient) Summit & Academy is a collaborative and transformative event to foster a courageous, authentic, and productive environment designed to empower and elevate boys of color through engaging workshops, meaningful discussions, and genuine connections by providing them with the self-awareness, strategies, and mentorship needed to excel academically, personally, and within their communities.
 
The P.O.W.E.R.Summit & Academy is a platform for boys of color to explore their potential, unlock new opportunities, and be empowered to chart their own paths toward success.

Through the POWER Summit & Academy, we aim to cultivate leaders, innovators, and change-makers who will shape the future of our world with their brilliance and compassion.

Vision

Our vision is to cultivate a generation of empowered and self-aware boys of color who lead with confidence, resilience, and purpose. We strive to create an environment where boys of color are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and community support to overcome barriers, seize opportunities, and become impactful leaders in society.

Goals

  1. Empowerment. Provide boys of color with practical strategies, tools, and resources to develop self-awareness, leadership skills, and resilience.
  2. Academic Excellence. Support boys of color in excelling academically by fostering a culture of achievement and providing guidance on navigating educational pathways.
  3.  Leadership Development. Cultivate leadership abilities through mentorship, real-world skill-building, and role model engagement.
  4. Community Engagement. Foster a sense of purpose and community belonging, encouraging boys of color to contribute positively to their communities.
  5. Career Exploration. Expand opportunities for career readiness and exposure by connecting boys of color to diverse career paths and professional development opportunities.
  6. Personal Growth. Promote emotional well-being and self-discovery, helping boys of color navigate challenges and build confidence in their identity.

The Charles Hamilton Houston Foundation fosters the academic, leadership, and professional development of boys and young men of color. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive continuum of strategy-centered, skill-based and career-focused programs, services and mentorship that go beyond theoretical knowledge, emphasizing a practical and strategic approach to prepare our participants for academic success and success in the competitive workforce. By aligning the curriculum with real-world demands and industry trends, we prepare them to meet the evolving needs of the job market and secure their economic stability and mobility.
Durham Public Schools Office of Equity Affairs
The Durham Public Schools Office of Equity Affairs was established in 2017 with the mission of ensuring that students experience educational equity in grades pre-K-12 regardless of race or ethnicity.

WE ARE KINGS Boys of Color Program
WE ARE KINGS Boys of Color Program is a Durham Public Schools district initiative, which empowers boys of color to become agents and advocates for more equitable practices in their schools. The program provides assistance with healthy identity development, cultural affirmation and social justice.
Thomas Mentor Leadership Academy
The Thomas Mentor Leadership Academy loves, leads, guides and mentors males between the ages of 9 and 18 who are being raised by a single parent, single legal guardian or their grandparent(s).
